Apologies for the lack of posts of late, ridiculously busy working on the next LP! Promise we’ll get back on the web soon with news of the release dates and all that ish!

Below is a live version of the first track we wrote for the album, but i have to admit it mightn’t even make it onto the record! So if you wanna know what the new stuff sounds like imagine this but better and loads different!

Our manager told me yesterday that we have inadvertently accepted a gig sponsored by Relentless, which is in turn owned by the evil overlord Coca-Cola, and said festival is less than 2 weeks away. If the offer had been for the Coca-Cola Boardmasters Festival, it would have been an instant no but it wasn’t and maybe we should have done our research but we didn’t, and now we are in the awkward position of deciding what to do.

Now for those who don’t know, this is a problem for us, Pip’s “Thou Shalt not buy Coca-Cola products” line in Thou Shalt… isn’t just a controversial demand made to make us appear more interesting, it is a belief, it is something we both adhere to not matter how much I miss Dr Pepper & Cherry Coke. You see Coca-Cola aren’t a good company, now no multi-national company can be said to be angelic but Coke really take the biscuit, their rap sheet highlights include the murder of 8 union leaders in Columbia and the use of polluted water in India.

So what do we do, festivals are massively expensive things and corporate sponsorship is how a lot of festivals survive, think of Reading & Leeds festival, the headline sponsor for years was Carling, a beer company, more than 30000 people die a year in Britain from alcohol related diseases but you don’t hear of anyone pulling out because its the Carling Weekend. Corporate Sponsorship cannot be avoided but as a band we do have options:

1. We could play dumb and pretend we didn’t know thus taking the ignorance is bliss route and do the show with blinkers on.
2. Play the show and talk openly about the issue.
3. Cancel the show.

Now of those 3 options only option 2 makes sense to us, option 1 is sadly the standard route but we don’t want to be those guys, also me writing this blog kinda destroys the credibility of route 1. Option 3 has potential but 2 weeks before the festival all we’ll be serving to do is let down the people that are coming to see us and the damage will already have been done by association. So option 2 is the only way.

So this summer we’re on the road very little compared to previous years, and to make matters worse we’re not likely to gig in Europe for 3 months at the end of the year, poo, but dan has bought a little video camera so hopefully will be able to fill you brains with some exciting lil bits of footage….

First up I’ve gotta break some bad news, it is true last Summer I, dan le sac, cheated on Scroob and went in the studio with someone else, I know it was wrong but I just couldn’t help myself, she was just so talented! To continue this Music as a Marriage metaphor I even had an illegitimate child with Ms Anni T under the name of “Wasnotwas”! Long story short the KID A single “Wasnotwas” is out today on TheLab! You can nab it on SWEET!

But don’t worry this hasn’t spelt the end for dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip, in fact whilst working hard on the next LP we’ve even managed to squeeze out a lovely remix of Bat For Lashes “What’s A Girl To Do” which will feature on her single “Pearl’s Dream” on June 22nd, Pip even laid down a few verses for it!

Like all good things, on Wednesday May 27th my run at the Satin Lizard Lounge is coming to an end. This is the last of 4 that i have booked and hosted and by god we are going out with a bang!

We have Joshua Idehen providing energetic and well observed poems for you. Joshua was at one of the first spoken word nights i ever went to and he stole the show and made me go home and up my game! He is in several collectives (Poem Inbetween People, Benin City) that are tearing it up this summer on the festival circuit. Also Mr dan le sac did a track with him called Cupid which is on dan’s myspace, check it.

Next up is Joshuas partner in rhyme, Musa Okwonga. I once went up against Musa in a poetry slam. I gave my all and felt confident…until he took the stage and delivered one 10 minute piece. I promptly lost out to the better man. Published author and one of the most highly rated poets in the UK, dont miss out!

Then we have the mystery element! This week being the last week, will have a secret guest or two!
Rest assured the night will be a great one. It may over run a little but hey, its our last night for now!

Pip and I are still foraging away trying to find the beats to fill our next record and to be honest its a long way off! But we decided to play a new track yesterday on Lauren Laverne’s 6music show, its potentially called “The Beat” and you can listen to it here for the next 6 days, forward the player to about 1hr 42mins to hear it!

Ahhhhh May is nearly here and with it comes another splendid line up at the Satin Lizard Lounge. May 13th is going to be a special night. We have carefully chosen two poets that intertwine like a bowl of turkey twizzlers!

Ross Sutherland and Chris Hicks will be doing a set tonight that will vear from individual pieces to combined pieces and back again. With an almost offensive amount of humour and intelligence these boys will blow you head off then politely place them back atop your head after hiding a secret note under it.

For your musical delight this week we have the man, the myth, Gideon Conn! I first stumbled upon Gideon at Glastonbury 2007 and i have been obsessed since. I have now seen him live around 30 times and have been left feeling warm, entertained and fulfilled everytime.

Once again we are providing an insanely strong line up absolutely FREE at Puregroove Records from 6.30pm-8pm.
